Sustainable forestry plantations

Sunshine Technology establishes sustainable commercial forestry plantations in tropical and sub-tropical regions, combining the most technically and economically effective silviculture available with proven management methods and low establishment costs. Our short-rotation, high-yield forestry plantations will create value in three areas: WOOD PRODUCTS, BIOENERGY and CARBON CREDITS.

WOOD PRODUCTS are the company's main business driver. Global demand for traditional wood products is expected to continue to grow.

BIOENERGY based on wood biomass is the newest market for wood products.  Biomass power plants in Europe and the U.S. are seeking to secure their long-term wood biomass supply.  Sunshine Technology is uniquely positioned for this market.

CARBON CREDITS can be developed from our core businesses. Carbon sequestration is receiving more attention. Additional growth in demand for project-based credits is likely to result from the acceptance of CDM and/or voluntary credits in future compliance schemes.

Our international forestry teams work together with host countries' forestry agencies and local labour to establish plantations that aim to produce consistently high, long-term wood yields. We are committed to the responsible management of our plantations and seeks certification from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international, independent, non-governmental organization that provides internationally recognized standard-setting and accreditation. FSC certification recognises the sustainable nature of forestry operations and often provides higher market value for wood products.

Key to the sustainability of our plantations is alignment with local government social, environmental and developmental goals.  Our operations will benefit the local economy, society and environment through the creation of large-scale rural employment and skill transfer, the development of sustainable natural resources for timber and/or renewable energy that support local and national development, and environmental improvements including the maintenance of biodiversity and protection of natural habitats.
